About the Teacher

Education:

B.S. Computer Information Systems - Grambling State University, Grambling, LA

M.A. Modern Languages/TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) - University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS

Certifications:

Business Education

ESL K-12

Experience:

I am privileged and very excited to serve our English Learners at Shadow Oaks Elementary!  I am passionate about growing their language skills and helping them to achieve academic success.  This year marks my 6th year as an EL Teacher.

My background experience includes work in the areas of communication, business, and technology.  Although these have been fascinating and exciting professions, my experience as a teacher has, by far, been the most rewarding!

Previously, I worked for over twenty years in the field of Information Technology as a software developer for large corporations, such as Caterpillar, Maybelline, First Tennessee Bank, and FedEx.  In 2012, I decided to transition to a career in teaching, in order to make a difference in the lives of children who face difficulties, disadvantages, and deficits in this ever-changing world and increasingly diverse country.  In 2014, I received my master’s degree from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS.  I am certified to teach English as a Second Language, as well as Business Education.

I look forward to making meaningful and lifelong connections with all of my beautiful students this school year!

NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: March 23, 2020

Mississippi Department of Education Compiles Learning-at-Home Resources

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has compiled a host of learning-at-home resources for students in pre-K through grade 12 to support student learning during the extended school closure. The resources are available online at www.mdek12.org/LearningAtHome.

The learning-at-home resources do not replace what children have learned at school, but instead help students practice the skills and strategies taught by their teachers. The resources are intended to help parents and caregivers engage students in continued education.
