About the Teacher

Hi, I'm Mrs. Jessica Benson. I absolutely love teaching and I am so excited to be one of your child's teachers this year!

I have worked in education for ten years, most recently as the Birth-PreK Director of a non-profit foundation. Prior to my work as a Birth-PreK Director, I taught Pre-K at Quitman County Elementary School and Kindergarten at R.H. Bearden Elementary School.

I earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Child and Adolescent Development from California State University, Fullerton and a Masters of Education degree in Elementary Education from Delta State University. I also achieved National Board Certification in Early Childhood in 2013.

I am originally from La Habra, California and have lived in Mississippi for over ten years. I am married to a teacher and together we have two young boys and two rescue dogs.

Week of April 6th-10th

Monday: Play one of the new games I have added to your Boom Learning account! If you need your username or password, an adult can email me or text me.

Tuesday: Choose a book from Unite for Literacy to read or listen to (you can even listen to it in your home language!). Invite a family member to enjoy the book with you.

Wednesday: Write a story about this picture using Google Forms. I'll be able to read your writing as soon as you press submit. I can't wait to see your work!

Thursday: Play Simon Says with someone at home. Say, "Simon says (verb like run, jump, sit, clap, etc.)"

Friday: Draw a picture and write one reason why you love someone at home. Then give it to them and watch them smile!

Boom Learning: We use Boom Learning weekly in class. Students can sign in using their username and password. They can use Boom Learning on a computer/laptop or on a smart phone/tablet using the Boom Cards app. They have access to a variety of activities that I have assigned to them. If your child doesn't remember his/her username or password or you need any help using Boom Learning, please email me or pop in to my support hours on Zoom! 😊

Current App/Website of the Week:

Unite for Literacy: Unite for Literacy is a totally free website that has hundreds of books to read. Raz-Kids: Raz-Kids is a website that every student as Greenbrook can access! Raz-Kids has over 800 books that students can read as well as quizzes about what they've read. There are even books in Spanish! If you need your child's login information, reach out to their classroom teacher.

ABCya: ABCya is a free website that has over 400 games for students in PreK-6th grade! In addition to games to play, the website also has lots of videos demonstrating how to make things like origami butterflies, 3D cubes, and superhero straws. No account needed!
